An inaccessible island in World of Warcraft: Midnight has players convinced Blizzard may have already shown us the next patch zone.
You can only see it for a few seconds before being teleported away. But that has not stopped the speculation. The area was previously spotted in the game files and even renamed from Isle of Fangs to Atal’Utek, something we covered earlier when datamining first hinted at a troll-themed raid zone.
Now that Midnight is live, players are seeing the island in-game and calling it the “most obvious next patch zone ever.“
Hidden Island With Big Implications
The area was accessed during testing and appears fully designed, just not playable yet. Screenshots shared by players show a heavy poison and decay theme, with green haze and a corrupted atmosphere. It all looks intentional, not unfinished.
Given how close the island is to Zul’Aman, and where players currently are in Midnight’s story, it is no wonder Reddit users quickly started calling it the next patch zone.
As the original poster, Aggnicia_MightyGnome, pointed out, the island even has its own general chat channel, which only adds to the suspicion that this is future content waiting to be unlocked.
The renewed speculation has also started circulating more widely, with outlets like PC Gamer picking up on the theory as well.
Amani Trolls, Ula-Tek, And Zul’Jan
Most of the speculation points toward the Amani trolls.
The poison-heavy look of the island immediately made players think of serpent loa themes. Many believe it could connect to the Altar of Ula-Tek, especially given the earlier “RaidUlatek” references found in the files.
Zul’Jan also keeps coming up. Players think he could try to restore Amani power and accidentally unleash something far worse, maybe even a C’Thraxxi tied to the Void storyline. However, there is a bit of pushback on that theory. Zul’Jan has always rejected outside corruption, so turning him into a simple Void villain would feel off. Nevertheless, many hope this leads to a proper Amani-focused raid tied into Midnight’s story.

Is This Patch 12.1?
WoW expansions often change direction mid-cycle. We have seen this in major raid arcs that changed focus before: WotLK (Wrath of the Lich King) moved toward Yogg-Saron. Legion paused its main story for Trial of Valor. Battle for Azeroth detoured into Nazjatar.
A troll-focused patch would not be unusual, especially if it still connects back to the wider Midnight storyline.
Of course, nothing is confirmed yet. Still, between the finished look of the island, the raid references in the files, and how openly visible the area is in-game, this does not feel accidental.
So, if this really is Patch 12.1, Blizzard might have already shown us what comes next.
