PlayStation Portal Just Got Cloud Streaming for PS5 Games

PlayStation just announced a massive update for the PlayStation Portal, and it is honestly a game-changer. Cloud streaming for PS5 games is officially live, which means you can now play a selection of various PS5 titles directly on the Portal without connecting to your console first.

If you have PlayStation Plus Premium, you can stream supported PS5 games from your library or from the PS Plus catalog. Yes, that means you could be on hotel Wi-Fi playing Cyberpunk, God of War Ragnarök, or Final Fantasy VII Rebirth on the Portal while your PS5 at home is turned off. Pretty awesome, right?

This is the moment a lot of Portal owners were waiting for.

Cloud Streaming for PS5 games on PlayStation Portal

Thousands of Streamable PS5 Games

At launch, thousands of games already work with cloud streaming. That includes big titles like:

  • Astro Bot
  • GTA 5
  • Borderlands 4
  • Resident Evil 4
  • Cyberpunk 2077
  • Hogwarts Legacy
  • The Last of Us Part II Remastered

If you want to see the full list of supported streaming titles, you can check the official PlayStation cloud streaming page here.

And if you own a compatible PS5 game digitally, you can stream it too. No downloads, no Remote Play setup, nothing else required; just boot up the Portal and start playing.

Needless to say, this is perfect if someone else is hogging the TV or your console.

An Updated UI and Helpful Features

Sony also rolled out a new Portal UI with these three tabs: Remote Play, Cloud Streaming, and Search.

The Search tab even shows a QR code if you do not own the game you click on, which makes it way easier to grab titles from your phone.

On top of that, some nice upgrades arrived:

  • 3D audio support
  • Passcode lock
  • Network status overlay
  • In-game purchases through cloud streaming
  • Accessibility features
  • Multiplayer invites while streaming

It feels like the Portal has finally leveled up into an actual handheld platform, instead of just a streaming accessory.

A Sign of Where PlayStation Is Going

Between this update and PlayStation leaning harder into cloud content, it is clear Sony is not just treating the Portal as a gimmick anymore. They are building it into the PlayStation ecosystem piece by piece.

Sure, it might not be a Steam Deck competitor yet, but after today, it is a whole lot closer to being one.
