WoW Forever is changing pretty much everything about Classic, and as it turns out, PvP is no exception. Today we have a full overview of the changes, as Blizzard explain how it’s all going to work.
First off, PvP progression has two parts: Honor and Ranks. Honor is a currency you gain from all PvP activities, and the rates in all battlegrounds have been reworked so players don’t feel like they need to do Alterac Valley all the time. Then there’s Rank Points, which will move players through the same old PvP ranks up to High Warlord/Grand Marshal. They come from PvP activities and related quests, as well as at an increased rate during holiday weeks. They also have a weekly cap.
Then there’s the rewards, which require Honor, and for the epic versions, certain PvP ranks. Seasons bring structure to the progress, with weekly tasks to complete. These tasks not only grant Honor and Rank Points, but also a Legacy Point!
You can also check out our PvP guides that go in-depth on the individual ranks and how it all works:
Whether you’re charging into battlegrounds with your faction or setting your sights on long-term PvP (Player vs. Player) goals, World of Warcraft: Forever brings a refreshed sense of purpose to every match-up. This approach gives players more reasons to take part throughout the season while preserving the spirit of competition that defined PvP in the original World of Warcraft.
Approachable and Familiar
When reimagining the PvP system, we wanted to keep the design pillar of “Approachable and Familiar” firmly in view: simplifying the original Honor System while staying true to its roots.
Progressing Through the Ranks
In World of Warcraft: Forever, PvP progression has two parts: Honor and Rank Points.
Honor
Honor is a currency players earn through taking part in PvP content. This includes defeating other players, completing battlegrounds, and finishing relevant PvP quests. Players also earn increased Honor in highlighted battlegrounds during their holiday weeks.
As part of these updates, we reviewed Honor gains across battlegrounds so acquisition rates are more consistent across the board. We want players to enjoy the full range of battleground maps without feeling compelled to choose Alterac Valley solely for Honor efficiency.
Rank Points
Rank Points come from PvP activities such as battlegrounds and relevant PvP quests, with holiday-week battlegrounds offering an additional boost. As players earn Rank Points, they advance through familiar PvP ranks from original World of Warcraft, working toward the ultimate titles of High Warlord for the Horde or Grand Marshal for the Alliance. Ranks have a weekly cap, retaining the foundation of the original system while making the journey more accessible.
Gearing Up for Battle
Honor can be used to purchase two sets of PvP gear: one blue-quality set and one epic-quality set. The epic set requires the blue piece plus an Emboldened Seal to upgrade it, and Emboldened Seals have rank requirements players must reach before purchasing. There are also new and reworked items to fill gaps for specializations that were previously missing options. For example, Shaman now have healer, melee, and caster PvP gear sets they can acquire.
Below are the rank requirements for PvP item rewards:
Rank 1 – Tabard
Rank 2 – PvP Trinket
Rank 3 – Cloaks
Rank 4 – Necklace
Rank 5 – Combat Potions
Rank 6 – Tabard
Rank 7 – Battle Standard
Rank 8 – Epic Bracers/Epic Belt Upgrade Token
Rank 9 – Epic Boots Upgrade Token
Rank 10 – Epic Gloves Upgrade Token
Rank 11 – Mounts
Rank 12 – Epic Legs/Epic Shoulders Upgrade Token
Rank 13 – Epic Chest/Epic Helm Upgrade Token
Rank 14 – Epic Weapons
To view your progress, you can open your Character Pane (Hotkey-C) then select the Player vs. Player tab on the right side of the interface. It will show you your rank, your current Rank Points, and what rewards are available for purchase based on your rank.
PvP Seasons
During a PvP season, players can progress through the ranks and earn Honor. Each season also includes a journey with weekly tasks to complete. Successfully completing those tasks grants Honor and Rank Points, and three tasks each season also grant a Legacy Point. Completing these tasks is part of the seasonal journey, and because they are tied to the Legacy System, they remain available to complete in future seasons.
With more ways to make progress each week and meaningful goals to pursue throughout the season, PvP in World of Warcraft: Forever gives players a clear path to jump in, compete, and keep building toward what comes next.
