It’s official – sport fishing is coming to Ashes of Creation. This is considered one of the most anticipated life skills coming to Ashes of Creation, and it’s a bit surprising to see how many fishing enjoyers there are in the MMO community! In the recent September Development Update, we were able to get a closer look at this new system coming soon.
Please note: sport fishing will NOT replace the fishing we know of today (the AFK form of fishing). You will still be able to AFK fish whenever you’d like. Sport fishing is a new iteration to fishing as a whole, so don’t worry about missing out on that helpful AFK fishing method when you’re multi-tasking!
What is Sport Fishing in Ashes of Creation?
Sport fishing is an all-new system coming to Ashes of Creation which will introduce a new, interactive method of fishing. Sport fishing is moreso an active method of fishing, and there’s a lot of plans when it comes to this new twist on fishing. Eventually, there will even be a whole skill tree associated with sport fishing (stay tuned for more updates on this).
Sport fishing will be an activity-based form of fishing where you can travel and interact with specific fishing nodes, where you can then throw in chum into the water allowing you to start fishing. Every player in that area near the chummed water can also fish in that specific area as well (essentially the chummed water is what makes this resource node active). You will be able to then use your fishing pole, and also select a specific type of lure (which is a new addition to the fishing system we know today). As you increase in the quality of your lures, you’ll increase the chance of catching rarer fish.
You will be able to go sport fishing out in the open sea (in lawless zones), as well as go sport fishing in fresh water (non-lawless zones). Keep in mind though that fishing in lawless zones will likely also lead to greater rewards to support the overall Risk vs. Reward methodology throughout Ashes of Creation.
Once a fish bites your hook, a form of a mini game will start, where you will actually need to work to capture the fish! After successfully completing the mini game, you will catch the fish. Each fish will come in a different size as well, ranging from very small to very large!

Interestingly, many of these fish you’ll be able to capture from sport fishing may be too large to fit in your inventory! Instead, you’ll need to place them right on your back, where you can then place them on fish holds on your ship, or even carry it directly to safety from on your back! Stay aware though, as enemy players can jump on your ship and try to steal what you’ve captured!
Sport fishing is currently planned to be included in the next upcoming major update coming on November 18, 2025. Additional content coming with this update includes the new Summoner archetype, the Harbringer system, and more!
