Last night, CD Projekt Red held the special 10th anniversary livestream for Blood and Wine! During the event, they finally shared a few more details about the upcoming third expansion for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, called Songs of the Past.
Even though the stream mainly focused on celebrating Blood and Wine and its legacy, the developers still dropped some pretty exciting teases about what we can expect from Geralt’s return in 2027.
For those who missed the stream, you can watch the VoD on the Witcher’s official YouTube channel:
Songs of the Past Is Being Treated Like a Full Expansion
One of the biggest points from the stream is that CD Projekt Red repeatedly emphasized that Songs of the Past is not just a small DLC. The team directly compared it to Blood and Wine and Hearts of Stone, making it clear they still view expansions as something much larger than standard post-launch content.
“Songs of the Past will be aligned with what you’re familiar with in Blood and Wine,” the developers explained during the livestream.
“It’s an expansion, let’s make it clear.”
That sentence alone is probably enough to get long-time Witcher fans excited, especially considering how massive Blood and Wine ended up being back in 2016! This means hours of content, amazing story, exploration, Gwent games, and more!
Similar Size to Blood and Wine
The developers avoided revealing any story details for the new expansion, but they confirmed that they are aiming for a similar size to Blood and Wine, and as we already mentioned, that really means a huge amount of new content.
Songs of the Past could introduce:
- A completely new region
- A huge new main quest
- Many side quests
- Additional Gwent content
- New equipment and weapons
- Important story choices linked to Geralt’s return
The team also teased that Geralt’s mysterious new third sword is directly linked to the expansion’s story.

Hidden Clues and More Coming Soon
According to the developers, multiple hints about Songs of the Past have already been hidden in recent Witcher promotional artwork, especially around the Belleteyn festival artwork. Belleteyn is a spring celebration in Witcher lore often associated with Yennefer and Ciri, so now a lot of people are already coming up with crazy theories.

We won’t reveal too much, so it is up to you to come up with your own theories!
On top of that, CD Projekt Red also confirmed:
- More Gwent cards are coming
- Console mod support is still in development
- The expansion is being co-developed with Fool’s Theory (they are the ones taking care of the Witcher Remake)
- The first real look at Songs of the Past is expected during Gamescom 2026
The livestream also ended with a short tease of the expansion’s new music, giving us one final reminder that Geralt’s next adventure is officially on the way.
After how beloved Blood and Wine still is nearly a decade later, expectations for Songs of the Past are going to be extremely high! How excited are you for this?
