This Iron Dragonmaw Gate Decor is Locked Behind a Broken Achievement

If you don’t already have one of the achievements required to earn the Iron Dragonmaw Gate decor item, then chances are you’ll never get it – not unless Blizzard makes a change.

The Iron Dragonmaw Gate

Like all good collectibles, housing decor has been tied to a variety of content that people enjoy, rewarding people who already take part in that content, and giving others a motivation to try it out. Several PVP achievements reward PVP-related decor, and the achievements tied to these range from super easy to basically impossible. The Iron Dragonmaw Gate is linked to one of those achievements that’s impossible.

The Iron Dragonmaw Gate is a reward from the PVP meta-achievement Master of Twin Peaks. While many of the achievements required for this are simply challenging – you won’t get them easily but you will get them if you work hard enough – the problem is the achievement Cloud Nine.

Cloud Not A Chance

Cloud Nine requires capturing and returning a total of nine flags in a single Twin Peaks battle. In other words, you need to capture at least one flag, and also personally return up to eight flags. The problem with this is that Twin Peaks battles are usually too short to manage all of this before the battle is over. This is partly because battlegrounds have been adjusted to last shorter now than they used to – Twin Peaks Brawls are especially speedy – without any adjustments being made to the achievement. So while it may still be technically possible to earn this achievement, the requirements have changed since it was introduced, transforming it from difficult into nearly impossible.

What makes this worse is that a lot of people who do have the achievement used a bug to obtain it. Based on comments on reddit and Wowhead, the go-to way to earn this achievement for a very long time was to hit Alt+4 as the battle ended, which would save your progress. This bug was fixed relatively recently, but the achievement itself still hasn’t been adjusted to be more reasonable.

Hopefully, Blizzard will consider making an adjustment to this achievement in the future. A simple fix would be to simply allow progress across multiple battles instead of restricting it to one. This would feel fair, especially as this is how many people who got the achievement while it was still bugged earned it anyway. It also wouldn’t necessarily transform an impossible achievement into an easy one. Master of Twin Peaks still remains one of the more challenging PVP-meta achievements in the game, even with an adjusted Cloud Nine, it would still require a lot of work and dedication if you wanted the Iron Dragonmaw Gate. But a small change to Cloud Nine would turn this achievement from an unfair impossibility into an aspirational challenge.
