We have a very large shift at the top of the most played dungeon classes, as a certain Hunter takes over as expected, but by a much larger margin than anyone thought. We also have quite a few changes in the group compositions, as the tanks and healers get quite a bit more diverse.

The Data
The data used in this article comes from Raider.IO‘s excellent analytics tools, taking into account all Mythic+ runs across all levels of play. The data is focused on this past reset and not on the season as a whole.
The Most Popular Specs in Mythic+
Well, we expected something like this to happen since the buffs and following great performance, but not many thought the switch-up would be this massive. Beast Mastery’s time to rule over all has come, and the Hunter has not only moved into the top spot, it is utterly destroying the competition. BM has a very large margin as the most played spec in dungeons this past week and a half, moving 2.1% straight out of third place to being 1.1% in front of the previous top spec, Frost DK.
You’d think that means Frost’s popularity dropped, but you’d be wrong, as the DK only lost a measly 0.1%. Even the previous 2nd most popular spec, Resto Shaman, only lost 0.2%! BM’s clearance numbers are still mostly around the end of the top 10 in the logs, but it is doing some major damage in the raw numbers in very high keys, as you can see here.
In fact, all top 10 specs lost between 0.1 and 0.2%, and so the main chunk of BMs’ gains came from the other actually played Hunter, as Marksmanship drops a big 1%, losing three spots. Fury manages to just barely move past Arcane, as it only loses 0.1% to the Mage’s 0.2.

We have a few timed 21s this past week, with 9 specs participating, BM present as well as Resto Druid.

And here are the full numbers, including the 1.57 million runs by Beast Mastery, over 170k higher than the second most popular spec.

Group Composition Popularity
The top group comps were ahead of their time, as they had BM in there last week already, and the rest of the charts just caught up. We do still see a huge burst from the No.1 comp, Prot Warr, Resto Sham, Frost DK, BM, and Ret, as the group gains a full 1% over the rest. The second most played comp, which substitutes Havoc for Ret, stays pretty stable, only gaining 1%. We do see a brand new group come up into 3rd, as Protection Paladin replaces Warrior in the tank slot, and Havoc still takes Ret’s spot. We see some healer variety in the 4th group as well, with Druid taking the Resto slot, with the rest the same as the top group.
