A lot of people playing Where Winds Meet miss a very useful exploration skill that unlocks treasure chest markers on your minimap. It is not explained well, and the requirements hide behind two stats that many players do not fully understand. If you are chasing talent points or doing full exploration, this is one of those features you definitely want to unlock early.
How To Unlock the Chest-Detection Skill
You can find the skill under Develop -> Details -> Explorational Skills (second icon/tab on the left).

The passive becomes available once you reach:
- 75 Elegance
- 75 Perception
You get these from two simple activities:
- Elegance: petting cats and eating food
- Perception: collecting oddities
Once both stats hit 75, the skill switches on automatically, and treasure chests will appear on your minimap.
How to Farm Elegance Quickly in Where Winds Meet
Food vendors are the fastest way to reach the required Elegance.
Each vendor gives:
- +1 Elegance for a standard meal
- +1 Elegance for a specialty meal
- +2 Elegance at 4 specialty meals eaten
- +2 Elegance at 8 specialty meals eaten
Total possible per vendor: +8 Elegance
One important detail:
You need to eat the food from your inventory. Buying it alone does nothing.
A reliable approach is:
- 8 standard meals
- 8 specialty meals
(or 10 standard + 8 specialty to be safe)
Eating food also increases vendor affection, which unlocks bonus chest rewards along the way. Weekly Jade Fish shops and the Meow Meow Temple in the first region help with gathering the coins you need.
What This Skill Does for You
In Where Winds Meet, treasure chests often contain Talent Points, which are valuable if you want to push your character’s build further. The markers cannot be disabled after unlocking the skill, so it depends on how much you explore, but it is very helpful if you enjoy clearing regions fully or hunting for upgrades.
