WoW Forever Hid Over 12,500 Items From Dataminers – Here’s What’s Still Secret

With Blizzard taking extra steps to ensure surprises when exploring WoW Forever, let’s take a look at the lengths they’ve gone to prevent dataminers from uncovering all the secrets of WoW Forever instantly.

On the contents of this article: In this post, we’re only looking at the number of things hidden/encrypted. There are no spoilers for specific items or any attempt to bypass what Blizzard has hidden. The encryption key section has speculation on what each key is based on their unlocks. Skip that section if you don’t want to learn anything about those.

Over 12,000 Hidden Items

To accomplish their goal of preserving the sense of discovery in Forever, Blizzard has made it so that 40% of all items in the game, or over 12,500 items, didn’t ship with their stats. This means players can see these items, know they exist, but not what their stats are.

As soon as a player discovers an item, Blizzard sends the information about that item to every other player. So far, in WoW Forever beta, 4,419 items have been revealed this way, or about 34% of all hidden items.

Below is a table showing an overview of the items in WoW Forever

Total Items in WoW Forever>31,800
Total Hidden Items12,594 (40%)
Items Discovered So Far in Beta4,419
Items Still Hidden8,175
Missing Mounts75
Missing Spells1,773

Note that there is no guarantee that every single one of these items will be revealed eventually. For instance, there are many hidden items that were part of Season of Discovery, but might not be used in Forever.

Next, let’s take a look at what these items are. But first, let’s divide items into three categories:

  • Visible Items: Items that were not hidden by Blizzard.
  • Hidden Items: Items with stats hidden by Blizzard.
  • Revealed Items: Items originally hidden, but have since been found by players.

Raid Items

One big category of items that have been hidden is raid items. Below is a table highlighting the status of all raid items from Classic, showing both Vanilla and SoD versions of all.

Scarlet Enclave––143191

It is good to highlight that every item from Season of Discovery is still present in WoW Forever data. This doesn’t mean, however, that it will be used in Forever. Most of SoD items have had their stats hidden; this could either mean they intend to use those in the future OR that they just want them to be hidden and not compared to the actual items. Basically a coin-toss.

Set Items

For set items, Blizzard seems to have only completely hidden Tier 1 and 2, as well as all SoD variants for every set. With their philosophy of having all specs raid-viable, it is very likely that each spec will have their own set for each tier, similar to what is happening with Hyjal/Barrow Deeps.

This could lead Blizzard to reuse the SoD variants of these sets, leaving the Vanilla ones unused, thus visible as they are right now.

Every new set for Forever, including those to be used in Hyjal and Barrow Deeps, started as hidden. A couple have been revealed so far: the low-level dungeon sets, but there are still another 5 dungeon sets hidden.

Dungeon Items

Dungeon items have all started as hidden with Forever beta. However, as beta progressed, a lot of these items have been revealed, with the full loot table from Deadmines, WC, SFK, and RFC being revealed already.

Part of the loot from later dungeons has also been revealed. Although it is unclear how and why, players are bound to level 20, making it impossible to even zone in on some of these dungeons.

Other Items

Besides instanced content, a large share of other items has been hidden by Blizzard, although a large part of them was kept visible from the start.

From revealed items, we’ve seen a lot of changes from their Vanilla versions. Most notably:

  • 178 changed their Item Level
  • 160 changed their Required Level
  • 102 changed their quality (i.e. uncommon -> rare)

Mounts

Beta includes entries for 141 mounts, plus 75 more mounts with models, but no database entry yet. Out of those unreferenced mounts, 56 are brand new, not present in Midnight. Besides those mounts, there are 3 other mounts fully encrypted, to be released with a promotion or event later on.

It is important to notice that just because a mount has a model, it doesn’t mean it will be ever released. Midnight itself has mounts that stay only as models for years on end until they are finally added to the game.

Encrypted Content

Besides hiding content, there are also actual encrypted pieces of content in the data. These items are fully protected and instantly revealed when Blizzard pushes their related key to players. We know, however, what each key is hiding.

  • Key 1 – New Dungeons
    • 5 New Dungeons – Likely the 5 missing Forever dungeons:
      • The Drowned City
      • Krol’dok Stronghold
      • Alcaz Prison
      • Blackmaw Hold
      • The Shaper’s Terrace
    • 34 Boss Encounters
    • 164 Spells
    • 329 Loot Entries
  • Key 2 – Raid Release
    • 2 Raids (Likely Hyjal Summit and The Barrow Deeps)
    • 2 Maps
    • 22 Encounters
    • 279 Spells
    • 153 Loot Entries
  • Key 3 – Quest Content
    • 79 Quests
    • 63 Items
    • 84 Spells
    • 1 Map
    • 1 Boss
    • 2 Crafted Items
  • Key 4 – Random Entries
    • 10 Quests
    • 17 Spells
    • 7 Item Effects
    • 1 Companion Pet
    • Models
    • UI String
  • Key 5 – 1 New Mount
  • Key 6 – 1 New Mount
  • Key 7 – Mount – Possibly a multiseater mount? Speculation
    • 1 Mount
    • 1 Vehicle
    • 2 Vehicle Seats
  • Key 8 – 1 New Companion Pet
  • Key 9 – 1 New Cosmetic Item
  • Key 10 – 1 New Cosmetic Item

Keys 5 through 10 resemble closely Midnight promotion/shop keys, so it is likely that they are already in place for future planned additions. Although this is all speculation.

Key 7 is really interesting, because it looks, at first glance, like it will unlock a multi-seater mount. This would be the first such mount in Forever. It is, however, only speculation based on a key unlocking both mount and vehicle data.

Track Item Reveals – Forever Watch

If you’re looking to stay updated with the latest items found by the community, you can use the Forever Watch tool from Today in WoW. This tool scans reveals sent by Blizzard, displaying the date and time an item is revealed.

It also supports Discord notifications and webhook pushes, so you can receive information about the latest reveals as they happen.
