We’ve all been through a standard WoW launch. A new expansion launches, the servers burst into flames, and suddenly you’re faced with the unbeatable queue boss. So when WoW Forever launched yesterday, expectations were understandably a little cautious.
But somehow, Blizzard has managed to pull off what might be WoW’s smoothest launch ever!
No endless queues or hours spent desperately trying to log in. Instead, queues were rarely extending beyond a 10-minute wait. Vice President and Executive Producer for World of Warcraft, Holly Longdale, confirmed that after the “wildness of Beta” the Forever team prepared the necessary “plans and contingencies”, and it’s safe to say, it paid off!
A large part of Blizzard’s success comes down to their new layering system. But of course, there is a trade-off. While layering has helped keep the queues under control so far, some cities and areas have been left feeling a little too quiet. Fortunately, Blizzard is aware of the issue and is already working on a fix.
Why do I see maybe 8 people inside the main city?
Hi There,
Just wanted to chime in and say that we are aware of some issues with certain areas not feeling as populated as they should. We will be tweaking some numbers tomorrow to help things feel a bit more lively.
Thanks for the feedback on this one!
As more people log on later today, we’ll see how things hold up. But after years of launch day chaos, Blizzard has given us a launch where we can actually spend our time playing instead of waiting—and that’s a pretty great start to WoW Forever.
