Diablo 4 and The Witcher Are Teaming Up for a New Crossover with More Details Coming at BlizzCon

CD PROJEKT RED and Blizzard are preparing to turn their connection of nearly 30 years into a formal partnership.

The two companies recently announced a brand-new collaboration between The Witcher and Diablo IV. The collaboration comes at a particularly interesting time for fans of The Witcher, especially fans of the highly acclaimed third game in the series.

First, a new The Witcher 3 expansion is scheduled for release in 2027—more than 12 years after the game’s initial launch. Furthermore, the game is also getting a remaster that will launch on September 29, 2026.

As part of this collaboration, players who pre-purchase Songs of the Past on Battle.net—or purchase the expansion there after its release—will gain access to a Geralt-themed skin in Diablo IV.

There is currently little additional information about the cosmetic. Blizzard has not yet revealed which Diablo IV class will receive the skin or exactly what it will look like.

In the post announcing the collaboration, Blizzard says the teams have created something special, with more information to be shared at BlizzCon this September.

A Nearly 30-Year-Old Connection

This is not the first time Blizzard and CD PROJEKT have crossed paths. Back in 1998, CD PROJEKT served as Blizzard Entertainment’s official distributor in Poland, bringing StarCraft to the Polish market. The relationship later continued with other Blizzard releases, including Diablo II and Warcraft III.

As Radek Grabowski, Global PR Director at CD PROJEKT RED, explained in the company’s blog post:

“Our video game studio grew from the same CD PROJEKT that was distributing video games in the 90s, meaning this is a continuation of the same story. Back then, the connection was about bringing Blizzard’s games to Poland. Today, it is about bringing a CD PROJEKT RED game to Blizzard. But the connection between our two companies goes beyond distribution deals and platforms. It can also be found in the people who work there and in the games that inspired them as industry professionals.”

He went on to highlight the influence of the Diablo series in particular:

“For me personally, the Diablo series was particularly inspiring and formative. Back in 1996, it introduced me to role-playing games, which I hadn’t had a chance to experience in their original pen-and-paper form. Many CD PROJEKT RED employees have a similar story; Blizzard’s iconic franchises helped shape our gaming tastes and continue to entertain us today.”

The Witcher Arrives on Battle.net

The partnership between the two companies goes much deeper than a single cosmetic crossover. When The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered launches, it will be immediately available on Battle.net, Blizzard’s PC gaming platform. The upcoming Songs of the Past expansion will also be available through Battle.net.

With The Witcher 3 coming to Blizzard’s client, the move is particularly notable because Battle.net has historically focused on games from Blizzard, Activision, and other Microsoft-owned studios.

Both companies have indicated that the arrival of The Witcher 3 on Battle.net is only the beginning of their partnership, with more details soon to follow.
