Blizzard have announced that we’ll finally be able to fix our ill-tempered items!
The Current Problem
One of the most dreaded outcomes for a great piece of gear you get, even a Greater-Affix adorned legendary, is getting some really bad tempering rolls in the final attempts. The item is, for all intents and purposes, bricked and either unusable, or at the very least much worse than it was before. Hunting for that perfect tempering roll is a risky business after all!
The Expansion Solution
Luckily for us, Blizzard have decided to add a solution in the Vessel of Hatred! The Dark Citadel is a co-op only endgame activity where players will be facing Khazra and gaining powerful weekly rewards. You will need a minimum of two players to enter, as some of the mechanics require multiple players. One of the rewards is the Scroll of Tempering, which allows you to reset the tempering “count” on one item! So far, so good, but there are some serious limitations on the scroll.
The Scroll Details and Limitations
Global Community Development Director Adam Fletcher expanded on how exactly the Scroll of Tempering works. Unfortunately it’s not only a 1-time use item, as we expected, it can also only affect a specific item once, regardless of how many scrolls you have. So you will only get one more full tempering round after you use the scroll. That’s one FULL round of tempering, not just 1 try. It resets the item’s tempering “charges”, as if it was never tempered to begin with.
On the positive side, the item can also come from anywhere else in the game, albeit with a smaller chance. The Dark Citadel is still your best bet to get it.
