Discover the exciting new changes to gems in the Vessel of Hatred update. Gems can now be swapped without visiting the Jeweler, socketing is simplified, and a powerful new Grand tier has been introduced!
Freely Swap Gems and Runes
One of the most important quality-of-life updates is the ability to freely swap Gems and Runes without visiting the Jeweler. This will allow you to quickly change your gear without the hassle of traveling to town. Plus, unsocketing no longer costs gold!
How it works:
- If you socket a Gem into an item with 2 slots and both are full, the bottom Gem will be automatically removed, with the new Gem placed on top.
- Trying to socket a Gem into an item containing Runes will remove the Runes, and vice versa, inserting Runes into an item with Gems will remove the Gems.
A New “Grand” Tier of Gems
A new Gem tier called “Grand” is being introduced, providing a 50% power boost over the previous “Royal” tier. Crafting these gems requires a hefty 100,000 Gem Fragments, 30 Forgotten Souls, and 10,000,000 gold.
Some Gem effects have been reworked:
- Ruby armor effect changed from % Max Life to + Strength.
- Amethyst armor effect changed from +Strength to +% Barrier Generation.
- Diamond armor effect changed from +% Barrier Generation to + All Stats.
Gem Fragments Drop Rate Buffed
Gem fragments will drop in higher quantities as you take on more challenging foes. This accelerates your ability to craft higher-tier gems and makes you more powerful overall.
Here are the Gem stat updates, starting with Chipped, and ending with Grand:
- Ruby, Emerald, Topaz, and Sapphire provide increased stat bonuses to Strength, Dexterity, Intelligence, and Willpower, as follows: +25/50/75/100/150.
- Amethyst now increases Barrier Generation by 2+2/4/6/8/12.
- Diamond increases All Stats by +8/16/24/32/50.
- Skull Gems boost healing received by +4/6/8/10/15.
Easier Socketing and Leveling Access
You now gain access to the Jeweler at Level 1, making it easier to craft and manage gems early in the game. Chipped Gems can be crafted from Level 1, while Gem Fragments start dropping from level 5. Adding sockets to items now requires Scattered Prisms, which are exclusive to Ancestral items and drop only in Torment difficulties.
