Which Class Is Currently the Best to Play in Season 9

If you have been wondering what is really the best class to push high-level Pit runs in Diablo 4 Season 9, the records are ready, and it is a pretty one-sided thing.

According to data gathered from the community tracking site helltides.com/pit, Spiritborn is basically the only class you should be playing if you want to be Pit pushing right now, with Sorcerer not that far behind. And that is basically it.

Spiritborn Everywhere

In the top 50 players, nearly every single one is running Spiritborn. You will find the occasional Sorcerer here and there, but that is about it.

Between spots 50 and 100? Same story. Even going as far as rank 200, the ranking is still mostly full of Spiritborns, with only a small amount of Druids, Necromancers, or Barbarians in sight. Rogue is not even there until passed 200.

What Are the Top Builds?

Here is what the most used builds look like:

  • Spiritborn: Top 100 are the Poison Thorns Spiritborns. Clearly, it does work pretty good!
  • Sorcerer: The Hydra Sorcerer this season clearly is the only Sorcerer build that seems needed.
  • Druid: The rare Druids that make into the top ranks are relying on Pulverize.
  • Everyone else? Pretty much unexistent. Barbarians, Rogues, and Necromancers have a couple of builds pushing up the ladder, but you have to scroll kind of far down to even see them.

So Much for “Just Pick a Skill and Build Around It”

Blizzard has often repeated that “you can pick any skill and build around it,” but looking at the pit rankings, that idea does not seem to work in practice.

The current state of the Pit leaderboard clearly shows that there is a real issue with build diversity. Some builds can barely make it through Torment 4, and definitely not compete for leaderboard placements. The developers have recently said they want more build freedom, the reality is: if you are not playing one of the few meta builds, you are typically stuck at low Torment Tiers.

What Players Want: Buffs, Not Nerfs

This is not just about leaderboards either, it just outlines the balance issue. Players are sharing on Reddit since months that they do not want strong builds nerfed. What they actually want is for the weaker skills and forgotten classes to be buffed. This would allow everyone to compete in the leaderboards with their favorite builds.

Having an entire top 100 dominated by a single class and one or two builds should be a red flag. Diablo has always been about build experimentation. But right now, players feel forced into a very strict meta if they want to compete at high-end content.

With the latest hints from content creators about big changes coming to the game, players are hoping those will include proper balance adjustments. Maybe the Pit rankings in the future will finally represent all the classes. Players will be able to choose a skill they love and actually go far with it, and not be forced into whatever build happens to be broken this season.
