Good Luck or Bad? Player Beats Insane Odds and Gets Two of the Same Mythic Unique in One Kill!

We’ve seen all kinds of luck in Diablo 4, and Season 5 in particular has been VERY kind to Mythic Unique seekers. We’ve seen perfect 4 Greater Affix rolls, up to three Mythic drops from one kill, some crazy amounts of crafting, and many more permutations, but today we have a very specific drop combo!

The Drops

Apocryphea was fighting Tormented Lord Zir with their group, and got some crazy luck – two purple beams shining through after the kill! But, in a bit of extra rarity, both Mythics were actually the same, the Ring of Starless SkiesRing of Starless Skies.

So, while it’s still extremely lucky to get two Mythic drops from one kill, since neither of the rings had any Greater Affixes, it was a bit of a mixed bag. However, a Resplendent Spark is a Resplendent Spark, so that’s half of a new crafted Mythic right there! Perhaps Apocryphea can eventually even go on a salvaging and crafting rampage like Rob did recently, destroying over 60 Mythics to craft that one specific Shako needed!

What Are the Odds?

We know each Tormented boss has 5 chances to drop a Mythic Unique in Season 5, and each chance sits at 1.5%, as Blizzard themselves explained. Based on that, as well as the number of available Mythic Uniques (8) Elderhide did some quick rounded up math:

  • Chance of at least 1 rare item in 5 tries: 7.22%.
  • Chance of exactly 2 rare items: 0.215%.
  • Chance both rare items are the same: 0.0269%.

So, would you be happy seeing two Rings of Starless skies drop from a kill?
